RECUPERA 2020 is the result of the joint effort of almost 40 research groups belonging to nine CSIC centres located in Andalusia and the CSIC itself. The project will mobilise five million euros from the CSIC, which together with the twenty million that the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness will provide as a repayable advance of European FEDER funds, makes up the total funding of 25 million.
RECUPERA 2020 is aimed at jump-starting the agricultural sector, converting Andalusia into an international reference for the development of new technologies and innovation for the rural environment. RECUPERA 2020 is a collaborative project between the Spanish National Scientific Research Council, other public research centres and companies. The activities to develop by the groups involved in the project are divided into three main areas.
Fourteen research groups from the seven CSIC centres in Andalusia are participating in the two aims of this activity. Firstly, the development and application of a series of new monitoring technologies of basic rural environment parameters, with regard to both plant cover, water resource control and animal monitoring. Secondly, new resources and techniques to control and trace agro-food products. Under this general framework, the activity’s main objective is to develop new monitoring and sensoring tools, able to provide direct information about the rural environment and its products.
Nine research groups will participate from five institutions to develop technologies related to environmental sustainability linked to the agro-food chain and also with prevention, action and recovery strategies for environments affected by forest fires. Fire is probably the greatest threat to the rural environment, in terms of environmental sustainability in Spain in general and the Andalusian community in particular. New equipment, systems and processes will also be developed to reduce the environmental impact of the agricultural activity.
With the participation of fifteen research groups from six centres, whose activity will focus on the optimisation of conditions for cultivating fruit and vegetables, the use and valorisation of by-products of the agro-food industry and also the increase in livestock farming production. The development of technologies suitable for the most typical products in the Andalusian agricultural industry is also proposed. The development of this area of activity, therefore, will contribute to the streamlining, systematisation and ultimately, strengthening of the agricultural sector, making Andalusia a reference in the use of cutting-edge technologies for the streamlined and sustainable exploitation of resources, with the utmost respect for the environment.
Given the variety of tasks and activities of RECUPERA 2020, both from the point of a scientific-technological perspective and its ability to be transferred and spread to companies, it is necessary to propose very robust administrative management structures and scientific coordination, which will make the project flexible and ensure it meets the expected milestones. The organisation must also encourage transfer, as well as provide the perfect framework for the participation of all project agents, both CSIC centres and other centres and participating bodies, as well as companies responsible for part of the development and innovation.
Transmitting the knowledge is one of the bases of the RECUPERA 2020 project and this webpage aims to announce the news generated by the almost 40 research groups belonging to nine different centres. The project proposes the research and development in diverse areas relevant to the sector, which would enhance their quality and sustainability. The proposed initiative aims to generate the technological research, development and transfer to the agricultural sector and the rural environment.
